Letter to the Welsh Government Regarding Patient Backlogs

The Covid pandemic has led to a patient backlog crisis. Many constituents have written to me to express their concerns regarding the patient backlog crisis in Bridgend.

I am deeply concerned about the missing 40,000 cancer patients in Wales who are awaiting treatment, surgery, or diagnosis.

It is also worrying to see Public Health Wales extend the routine cervical screening interval to five years which will delay diagnosis of cervical cancer.

I have written to Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board to express my concern and ask what is being done to manage the excessive backlog of patients.

I have also suggested practical solutions that could make an immediate impact to help tackle this crisis, including the introduction of diagnostic hubs across Bridgend.

We must deal with the patient backlog caused by this continuing and unprecedented health crisis, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to access non-urgent services that they so desperately need without a disrupted service.
