Letter to the Welsh Government Regarding Vision Impairment Services

I have written to the Welsh Government to raise my concerns regarding provisions for children with vision impairments in Wales.

Having recently met with Guide Dogs Cymru, I was informed that there is currently a “postcode lottery” for the provision of habilitation services for 2,000 children with sight loss in Wales.

It is unacceptable that some parents must move house to ensure their child gets access to the services they need.

I have called for the Welsh Government to deliver a structured programme of support for local authorities. This programme should provide local authorities with the support to employ at least one accredited habilitation specialist per hundred children who are visually impaired.
