Today, as the MP for Bridgend, Jamie Wallis met with Home Secretary, Rt Hon. Priti Patel MP.
The meeting follows scenes of thousands of visitors in Porthcawl this weekend despite the strict lock-down measures. They also discussed general policing levels in South Wales and the progress made so far with the recruitment of 20,000 additional police officers across the UK.
Speaking about the scenes in Porthcawl, Jamie said “It is not right that the residents of Porthcawl should wake up to thousands of visitors coming into their town during the lockdown. We can’t beat this virus if we don’t follow the advice and stay at home. Visiting the beach on a nice day is clearly not essential travel and it shouldn’t have happened.”
“The reason I asked I to meet the Home Secretary was originally to discuss the Government’s recruitment of additional officers and the likely impact on South Wales Police and general policing levels in Bridgend. People want to see more police on the streets in our Borough, and I’m excited that we will be delivering on that”
