As pupils across Wales return to school in the near future, many parents and students will naturally be nervous as they move into crucial exam or transition years in the school year ahead. For pupils about to move to secondary school for the first time, as well as GCSE and A-Level students, this is one of the most important years of their academic careers.
The situation is made even worse by the Covid-19 pandemic we’re all having to deal with at the moment. That’s why getting it right for pupils in these school years is so important.
The UK Government has allocated £1bn for tutoring in England, to make sure these year groups don’t fall behind in the most crucial years of their lives, so I want to make sure the Welsh Government pass on the funding it gets to these year groups from the UK Government for this as a consequence. To do anything else risks letting these pupils fall further behind.
