I welcome the UK Government’s new approach to building safety, which will seek to protect leaseholders.
Under these plans, those at fault will be held accountable with those companies at fault exposed. Further still, these companies will face commercial consequences if they refuse to fix the buildings they’ve built.
This plan is a sensible and measured approach to dealing with the cladding crisis in the UK. I welcome the new protections for leaseholders and residents who will face no expense for unsafe cladding.
However, I remain concerned that the Welsh Government have not yet committed to adopting the approach set out by the UK Government. I will write to the Welsh Government to request they consider adopting a similar strategy to deal with the cladding crisis in Wales.
