I welcome the UK Government’s action to strengthen the Online Safety Bill.
The changes will stamp out illegal content such as hate speech and offences relating to sexual images.
Naming these offences on the face of the bill means faster action can be taken against tech firms that fail to remove named illegal content.
I also welcome plans to give Ofcom the power to issue fines of up to 10% of annual worldwide turnover to non-compliant websites or block them from being accessible in the UK.
I am pleased that this bill ensures that criminal law is fit for the modern age.
