I welcome the UK Government’s new Energy Security Strategy, which seeks to secure our supplies following rising global energy prices.
The new strategy will see the Government delivering the equivalent of one nuclear reactor a year instead of one per decade. This also includes an ambition of 25% of the UK’s electricity demand being met by nuclear energy.
I am pleased to see the Energy Security Strategy also focussing on offshore wind power. The UK Government’s new target is to produce 50 gigawatts of energy by 2030. This would be more than enough to power every home in the UK.
The swift expansion of nuclear, wind, solar and hydrogen energy could see 95% of the UK’s electricity produced as low carbon by 2030.
