I recently met with Sarcoma UK to discuss the work they are doing on sarcoma diagnosis.
Unfortunately, those suffering from sarcoma will experience symptoms for a year and a half before they are even referred for investigation for soft tissue sarcoma. Of the 5,300 people diagnosed in the UK, only half will survive for five years.
I am pleased to see the NHS promote the “Help Us Help You” campaign to encourage people aged over 50 years old to contact their GP if they are experiencing symptoms of sarcoma cancer.
However, we must do more to improve the speed at which sarcoma is diagnosed and give every person the best chance of survival.
