This week’s Glamorgan Gazette column focuses on the need for Cwm Taf Morgannwg to set up surgical hubs in Bridgend and the neighbouring areas- to tackle the massive backlogs in elective surgery created by the pandemic.
I recently wrote to the Health Board to express my concerns about the growing surgery backlog in the area and suggest the introduction of surgery hubs.
At a meeting between the Health Board, local MPs and Senedd Members, I was delighted to hear that the Health Board is now actively exploring the possibility of designating the three major hospitals within its area to handle different types of surgery.
These initial plans also include transport to take patients to the specific hospital for their required surgery.
There are currently more than 600,000 people on waiting lists in Wales. I welcome the action taken by our local Health Board to introduce surgery hubs to tackle this problem.
