The invasion of Ukraine has put a spotlight on our need to strengthen cybersecurity. I have written to the Prime Minister to enquire as to what progress has been made in reviewing the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
Currently, the 1990 Act prevents cyber security professionals from carrying out essential threat intelligence research against cybercriminals and agents of rogue states without the fear of prosecution.
This issue is integral to our nation’s cyber security. I believe existing legislation must be urgently updated to reflect the technological landscape we live in today.
