I was proud to hold a Westminster Hall debate today on reforming the Computer Misuse Act 1990, especially in light of the news that Downing Street computer systems were suspected of being infected with spyware.
The need for this debate has become far more urgent as Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine has placed a spotlight on the pressing requirement to strengthen the UK’s cybersecurity.
It was fantastic to welcome campaigners from CyberUp, including cyber professionals to attend this debate. CyberUp has worked tirelessly in its campaign to reform the Computer Misuse Act 1990. This reform will be crucial to ensuring Britain remains at the forefront of the digital economy and establishes itself as a world leader in cybersecurity.
