My Work in Parliament

When in Parliament, my time will be spent in a variety of ways. These include: meeting with organisations or groups at the request of constituents, attending receptions or briefings, debating in the House of Commons or Westminster Hall, asking oral questions of Ministers, meeting with Ministers on behalf of constituents, entertaining constituents who are visiting and taking part in select committee meetings. Below you can read about some of the things I’ve been doing whilst in Westminster.

Storm Eunice Flooding Update

Storm Eunice caused severe disruption across Wales and the United Kingdom, with over 80,000 homes expected to be impacted.
However, it was promising to hear that the storm defences, invested in over the last 12 months, have been successful in stopping the most severe damage across the United Kingdom.

Supporting Children’s Mental Health Week

Children’s Mental Health Week is an opportunity to shine a light on the importance of children and young people’s mental health.
I had the opportunity to meet with Place2Be, who provide counselling to children in schools across the UK. It was fantastic to hear they are currently operating in 12 schools in South Wales and for every £1 spent on the service, it generates £6.20 back!

NHS Waiting Lists in Wales

Health service waiting lists are considerably higher in Labour-controlled Wales than in England, with one in five in Wales on a waiting list. I raised this issue in the House with Health Minister Edward Argar. I was pleased that the Health Minister agrees with my concerns and believes that the Welsh Government must present a plan to bring down the excessive waiting lists in Wales.
