Points-Based Immigration system a step closer after vote in Parliament

Earlier this week, the Member of Parliament for Bridgend, Jamie Wallis, spoke in the debate on the immigration bill, you can see more of the speech in the video below.

Here’s what was said:

Honouring the votes of the people from across Bridgend & Porthcawl who voted to leave the EU to take back control of our borders

An Australian-style points-based immigration system means we can grant visas to the people we need to benefit our economy and society

It’s a fairer system than the EU’s – we can let in the brightest and best from across the world, rather than everyone from just a handful from a small number of EU countries.

We need to judge people on their skills and not their nationalities. Talent is spread across the world.

We need to think about regional flexibility and the needs of areas like South Wales

We need to think about how we use immigration, as well as the talent pool here at home, to boost the industries of tomorrow, as well as the ones of today
