This week, I asked the Minister for International Trade, Penny Mordaunt, what impact the removal of US tariffs on UK Steel will have on the UK steel sector.
I was pleased to hear that the removal of tariffs on UK steel has been a success. The 500,000- tonne annual quota secured for UK steel exporters is almost double the annual volume of UK steel exports to the US between 2018 and 2019.
Many constituents work in the nearby Port Talbot steelworks. Since becoming the MP for Bridgend, I have championed our local steel industry. I welcome these figures that provide a significant opportunity for the UK steel industry to grow and protect jobs here in South Wales.
